With this **Flattening Stone** you can maintain all your ceramic sharpening stones. From cleaning the surface, removing sharpening residue and small surface irregularities, to flattening a sharpening stone that has become hollow after years of use. After using this flattening stone, your sharpening stones be good as new again! 

## Why using a flattening stone?
During use the abrasive particles of a sharpening stone are released. As such, a stone that is used on a regular basis is no longer straight and the surface looks dull and dirty. The result is that the sharpening stone is less efficient, and it is much harder to maintain the right sharpening angle. With this flattening stone, all these problems are quickly solved.

## Grain size of the Flattening Stone
What is unique about this flattening stone is that it is double-sided. One side has an extra coarse 24 grain for flattening coarse sharpening stones with a grain size of up to approximately 400. The other side has a coarse 220 grain for flattening sharpening stones with grain sizes ranging from 400 up to ultra-fine sharpening stones (5000+).
In addition, the size and weight of this stone is different from other flattening stones. The relatively high weight and the wide and long surface makes it possible to move the sharpening stone over the flattening stone just like a so-called lapping plate. But you can also move the flattening stone over the sharpening stone. The additional weight of this flattening stone will leave you with quick results. Both options ensure that your sharpening stone will be smooth again. Try it out and choose which way you like best.

## Using the Flattening Stone
Just like sharpening a knife, it is better to do it more often. If you use this flattening stone after every time you sharpen your knife, you prevent the sharpening stone from becoming hollow in the first place and you avoid the moment when you have to flatten the sharpening stone. Flattening can take quite some time, depending on how hollow your sharpening stone is. Use a pencil to mark the sharpening stone that has to be flattened. Afterwards you need to add water to the stone. Place the sharpening stone on a flat surface and place the flattening stone on top of it. Rotate the flattening stone over the sharpening stone and make sure you cover the entire surface of the stone. The sharpening stone will be flat again when you no longer see any marks.
